Introduction

Hi, I'm Theodore.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I was born and raised in the United States.

I'm a philosopher and software engineer. I work full-time as a Software Engineer at Roblox—you can check out some of our work at create.roblox.com/docs. I'm especially interested in web development and information security, and I'm passionate about building tools, services, and content that empower creators.

My goal is to help creators of all backgrounds realize their creative visions and connect with their audiences. 😄👍🏼🎉🚀

I enjoy:

  • Building trust and meaningful relationships across teams and disciplines.
  • Researching creative and practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Facilitating consensus among diverse or conflicting viewpoints.
  • Creating free and open-source tools and documentation that improve productivity.
  • Supporting the emotional well-being of the people around me.

Goals

My goal in life is to help people learn, think, and feel. I pursue that by writing documentation and creative works, leading thoughtful discussions, and building valuable products.

As a member of human society, I aim to do my part to ensure that our technologies, public policies, and institutions respect, protect, and promote human rights, civil liberties, and personal freedom.

Experience

I've worked as a Software Engineer at Roblox since April 2023. I originally joined the company in May 2021 as a Technical Writer and later transitioned into engineering. At Roblox, I build tools, resources, and documentation to help creators of all skill levels realize their visions and bring their ideas to life.

Transitioning from technical writing to engineering has allowed me to combine clarity with craft—to write for creators, and then build the systems that support them.

Before that, from December 2019 to May 2021, I worked at Standard Notes, a free, open-source, end-to-end encrypted notes app available on Web, Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux.

At Standard Notes, I contributed to documentation, user education, and editorial writing around open-source principles, encryption, and digital privacy.

Education

I graduated from university in May 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Philosophy (double major), earning magna cum laude honors and election to Phi Beta Kappa. I also pursued coursework in natural sciences, anthropology, and music. Outside of formal academics, I continue to enjoy exploring the humanities and social sciences through independent study.

I try to read at least one book per week. I've listed some of the books I've read on my books page.

Hobbies

I enjoy meditating, lifting weights, dancing, swimming, biking, running, reading, writing, and advocating for freedom and democracy. I also practice martial arts and yoga. Occasionally, I like to play cello, video games, board games, and tennis.
